Cotton Candy Finished!

cotton candy Yipee!! Cotton Candy is done! Actually, I don't thing that Cotton Candy is a good name now,, there is too much red and I always think of Cotton Candy as pink,,,, So,,, maybe the name should be "RED HOT THIRTIES"... yes, that seems to fit. Here is another shotCotton Candy and Webster show one of my four-legged beasties, Webster, checking out the new creation. he is always right beside me every step of the way LOL! I think I see a toy carrot laying there beside the quilt, too,,, hhmmm wonder which one, Webster or Dexter, didn't pick up their toys?

Well, now on to the next UFO,,, maybe the Christmas Bow Tie that I started a couple of years ago,,, it just needs the borders put on, then the top is done.

I had better start saving my money to get these quilted!

Selvedge Edge Quilts

So I'm browsing around on my emails and I get the one from BlockCentral and she has a note about this "new" quilt called Selvage Edge Quilts--- so I'm always one for something new so I go check it out ( you should, too!). Now, I am a great one at saving every little tiny bit of fabric I have, after all, you can ALWAYS use it for something, right? Personally, I make all my little bitty tiny scraps into dog pillows, but more about that later.

Anywho,,, Selvage Edge Quilts are string quilts made with the selvage edge that is usually cut off and tossed out... this is what they are doing selvage edge I think it's sorta cool! Guess you can use even the edges with the writing and the color dots. Hey! I'm all for NO WASTE !!

Now, I may have mentioned it in another blog but I keep all my itty bitties and make dog/cat pillows. I give them to the local humane society or rescue society. I make an inner pillow of muslin, or scrap stuff. Stuff it lightly, you know how the babies just love to make their nest ( around and around and around they go,,, and mine will scratch like crazy until they have it just right ( they're so funny! ) ). Then I sew up that pillow and stick it into another 'pillow case' that I have made out of something soft, like fleece or fake fur or something ( I usually get this at the remanent table or the $1.00/yd table. Then I sew up the edge of this with some sort of tight decorative stitching and VOILA! A dog pillow! And it's all washable and dryable....

Hmm,,, guess these selvage edges won't get put into the pillows! Wonder how many I would have to have/save - just tons I bet!

Oh well,,, it's an idea.

Yikes! I've been tagged -- TWICE!

Tagged - You're IT!

They got me twice - guess I just can't ignore it any longer. Thanks Tirane93 and Suzan -- thanks a bunch! Now I have to think of things to say about myself and go tag some others!

Here are the rules for Tagging...
1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you
2. Post THE RULES on your blog ( this be them! )
3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog
4. Tag 7 people and link to them
5. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.

Seems simple enough...

Jill, and Edna, and from my Quiltland Ring, The Queen herself ( gee, I hope she plays along! ), Marlene, Becky, and from Quilt Studio there is Suze and Michele. Please ladies, don't be upset that I tagged you,,, go tag your friends!

Ok, my 7 weird or random facts:

1. I can pick up things with my toes ( almost like monkey feet! )
2. I like liver and onions... I REALLY like liver and onions!
3. I don't like to shop in malls
4. I wish I could shave my head and not worry about what my hair looks like - think how easy a
bald man has it!
5. I like riding roller coasters - the bigger, the faster, the higher the better I like them. There is one at Disneyworld where you go thru it and there are NO lights! It's pitch black and you feel like you are flying thru the air -- OH so much fun!
6. I like to look at the sky here in Texas. Have you ever just looked at the sky? Some days it is extremely beautiful.
7. I miss not having a sister that I grew up with.

ok,, that's it! maybe weird, maybe not so weird.

My Weekend

It's been a wonderful and relaxing weekend - I haven't left the house once! And, yes, I stayed in my jammas the whole weekend! Well, they are not really! jammas, but lounging flannel pants and a shirt - it's been cold and damp here so I had a sweatshirt on yesterday. Anyway, I wouldn't want to be seen in public in my attire! They aren't even fit for giving to the thrift store!

So, what have I been doing? Well, I belong to the Quilt Mavens group at Yahoo - you can join, too! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DebKarasikQuilts/. We have a cool round robin going on right now and I did my first block. There are 4 to a group and we are doing trees for the seasons. Winter Tree I have it hanging on a piece of burgandy just so you can see the block itself. White background with gray 'tree'. I gave it green roots ( there are some gold and red stars in the green fabric ) cause you know that dormant things come to life in the spring! Mine go on a journey to Sweden now! I think I'll do a lot of embellishment when they are all back home. OH, the background fabric has WOW circles, sorta look like snowflakes.

Lets see, I sewed my Cotten Candy quilt rows together and cut the sashing for and the blocks for the piano keys border...

I took a nap!

I slept in late - or as late as the dogs would let me before they had to go out,,, LOL then I crawled back in bed.

I only cooked dinner both nites,,, DH was on his own for everything else. I changed the bed linens and cleaned the kitchen.

Now I'm ready to sew the sashings and the piano key border. I HAVE to get this quilt done cause I really really want to finish the Sea Urchins I started by Judy Neimeyer . Oh and I cut a binding for a charity quilt I did. Guess I need to take a picture of that quilt to share, too!

Ok, I'm sure I MUST have done some other things,,, or maybe not! I know I played alot on the computer and browsed around different blogs. Guess I'm ready for another week of 8 hours a day of never ending telephone calls.....

Oh I almost forgot, I joined the Mark Lipinski Yahoo group today,,, Hey! I get his magazine and just love to read it and laugh,,, and there are lots of cool quilts that I would like to do someday.. go here and join! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PickleRoadStudio. He is a real hoot! His web site is at http://www.quiltershomemag.com/ and it worth looking at -- I keep trying to add a picture of the magazine but it just won't work....

Hope everyone had a good weekend! I know there must be other stuff I did but I can't remember! Maybe that's a good thing.... I'm going to go put sashing on now...

later!

JAMMA DAY!

It's pajama day! It's rainy, it's cold, it perfectly delightful! I planned a jamma day, just to stay inside, and sew and listen to books... doesn't that sound just great? I'm NOT doing housework ( not that I do alot anyway, see me grin ), I am NOT getting dressed, I AM going to sew, take a nap, listen to my books on tape and maybe watch a movie on DVD. My DH can get this own food and do as he likes,,, I'm having a JAMMA day!

I do want to share this with you,,, this is my Dexter enjoying a snooze in my bed. I caught him all bundled up - his stuffed carrot is peeking out and he has the guilty look of 'bad dog'!! Dexter in bed
Ok, back to the sewing and the book and the relaxing!

Good Morning All! A beautiful Saturday morning here in central Texas - blue skies, about 60 degrees.... a great day to be out and about,, LOL but here I sit at 1030am still in pj's and enjoying the solitude.

Question -- I'm curious about the ETSY site, where you can buy and sell handmade items. It's here at http://www.etsy.com/. Has anyone sold anything on this site? Have you ever bought anything here? The photography of the items are great and I saw some really cute things.

It would be nice to sell some of the things that I want to make -- family only wants so many quilts!

If you know anything PLEASE leave a comment -- I'm sure everyone is curious.

Cotton Candy Quilt - again

I was left a very nice post with a great idea about this quilt - she said that it looked like a sorta swirl with the red blocks ( now I'm not remembering the exact wording here ) - so I thought "DUH" if the red is standing out so much, then why not use it as a design itself! So that is what I'm trying to do here...
Cotton Candy Quilt The red blocks are sorta making a cross across the quilt top - I just couldn't seem to make it SWIRL. So this is what I have. I have moved some of the red blocks around so that the same patterns are not right next to each other and I think it is betterCotton Candy - revisited

The inner border I think I'll make be a solid red ( RobertKaufman Kona ) and then the outer border is piano keys out of the same fabrics as the blocks. Probably a red binding. Hey! If the red stands out,,, I'll use it!

Ok, time to take it down, row by row and start sewing!

Cotten Candy Quilt

I've been working on a quilt trying to use up some of my 30's fabrics. I found this pattern online by RobertKaufman,,, the pattern is Cotton Candy - super easy! I've finished the blocks and put them on my 'design wall' (( it's a vinal tablecloth back,, LOL the blocks stick just great on it )) and have been pushing around the blocks trying to make sure that the color distribution is ok. Cotton Candy Quilt I think it is ok,,, but I'm going to let it sit for tonite and see how I like it tomorrow. Hmm maybe I need to move some of the reds around - they do sorta overpower! Maybe when the inner border and the outer bords goes on, it won't look so RED!

Ok,,,, on to the next thing!

I've Lost 9.2 pounds!!

WHEEE!1 9.2 pounds gone! That's abut 2 pounds per week and that is what is supposed to be a safe way to loose it - and MAYBE keep it off! Wouldn't that be great! And maybe I can get into some of my old clothes again... that would save me money! HEY! save money on clothes then I'll have more to put into savings so I can quit working! What a plan!

Think I'll find a weight tracker to put on this blog - if I see it everyday, then it will help me keep up....
OH found some great candy, made by Whitman for Weightwatchers.. found it at Walgreens. Toffee with a great chocolate coating. Only 1 point per piece and the pieces are pretty good size, too. So many things call themselves only 1 point but they are about as big as my thum nail,,, what's the point? only makes me want more... These, though, you would not know they are designed to be Weightwatchers.. and they are satisfying. hhmmm,,, maybe they are just Whitmans regular toffee, repackaged for Weightwatchers, and a higher price.... they would not do that to us, would they ??!!

Surfing and Reading

I've spent sometime fixing my blog - I had a border around all the pictures and my siggy and I didn't like that - and then just browsing other blogs. Of course, my "baby" Webster would not left me just sit,,, if my hands are not busy they are supposed to be petting him ( he's not spoiled at all ) so I browsed and petted. And saw some great blogs with great ideas! One has a list of all the books that she wants to read, and crosses them off as she completes them. Now, these are just novels, these are things like War and Peace! My! And I was tickled to want to read Alice in Wonderland! Not sure I could do War and Peace.... but I love the idea of a list that I can keep track of and maybe actually accomplish something.

Saw a list of all the quilts that someone wants to make - I have something like that, too,,, but guess I should add some to it - and keep track of them!

Saw beautiful pictures of Christmas lights.... LOl We still have some Christmas decorations sitting on a shelf in the living room - should really get those put up!

Hmmm,,, aren't blogs great ways to communicate our thoughts and ideas and show those interested a little piece of our world, a little glimpse into our thoughts and ideas.... think I'll go surf some more.
